James Jones, Sr.

Johnston, SC- Funeral Services for Mr. James Farrow Jones, Sr. will be held 11:00am Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the Coleman RIdge Baptist Church, with the Rev. T.L. Conley, Pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, 12:00pm-4:00pm Friday at the Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston.

Mr. James Jones, Sr. departed this earthly life and transitioned to his Heavenly home unexpectedly on Monday, December 16, 2024 at the age of 84. James Jones, Sr. was born on March 25, 1941, in South Carolina to the late Susie and Joshua Jones, but was raised by his stepmother Georgia Jones.

He was the beloved husband to his late wife, Linda Jones, brother, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle , nephew, cousin and friend. He was preceded in death by his sister, Enna Liza, and brothers, Joshua, Luther, Bill, and Bob but survived by one sister, Susie Henderson.

James attended Ward Elementary, and Ridge Hill High School. He later relocated to Philadelphia where he met and married the love of his life, the late Linda Louise Gordon on August 30, 1969. They were blessed with eight children and one son who preceded him in death, Tony Gordon.

James was a very hardworking and humble man. He drove school buses in Edgefield County. While living in Philadelphia, he also drove buses, worked as a chef, and worked at Sears& Roebuck and Co. for about 20 years. He also did part-time work at the family business.

His hobbies included working on cars and doing various maintenance and repair projects in his free time. He had a resilient and strong spirit and stood up as man of the house. But, above all else, he loved and cherished his family and was a Father figure to many.

He had a very giving heart which was evidenceed by many. He served faithfully as a member of Coleman Ridge Baptist CHurch since his retirement in 2005. He drove the church van, served as treasurer, performed maintenance on the church van, and in other capacities in the church as it was needed. He was a quiet man, but had a strong faith and belief in God which was witnessed in the last years of his life as he dealt with various health issues.

HE leaves to love and cherish his memory: three daughters, Tina (Juan) Collazo, Michelle (Jones) Teague, and Deanna Jones, four sons, L.C. (Doris) Barnes, James JOnes, Jr. Shawn Jones, and Maurice (Takiera) Jones, sixteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
