In what seemed like the blink of an eye, on October 18, 2023, our beloved Pearl Edward Lott saw the bright light of glory and began her journey home. Mrs. Pearl was born February 7, 1932, in Edgefield County, SC, the daughter of Smith Edwards and Mattie Smith Edwards.

She was educated in the schools of Edgefield County. She was a member of Grace Deliverance where the Pastors are Apostle Willie and Geneva Campbell.

She was employed with the Saluda County School District spreading love one meal at a time in the cafeterias of Riverside Elementary_and Saluda Elementary for over 44 years.

To some she was Ms. Pearl, To some she was Young Lady, To some she was sunshine, To some she was Mother Pearl, To some she was Queen, To some she was Grandma, To some she was Nana, To some she was Nen-Nen, To some she was Grammie, To some she was Nenny but To us she was Mom and Mamma.

Ms. Pearl was such a giving person. At times, she used her personal finances to make sure students had hot lunches. She also fed those in the community that came to her home for fellowship. Ms. Pearl was a woman, who was loved by all and always offered a cheerful smile and words of encouragement to anyone who needed it. She was a person with a good heart.

Ms. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lott, Sr, her parents, and two sons, James and Albert Lott, Jr.

Ms. Pearl leaves to love, honor and cherish her memories, her children, Marjorie Perment, Johnston, SC, Edward (Roberta) Lott, North Augusta, SC , Tracy Lott, and Marilyn Lott both of Trenton, SC, a brother, Lawrence Edwards, Trenton, SC; fifteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Rondell Morris

Raleigh NC- Funeral Services for Mr. Rondell Morris will be held 2:00pm Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Monetta Baptist Church with the Reverend Roosevelt Franklin, Pastor/ Presiding. Viewing will be at the Amos & Sons Funeral Home from 11:00am- 6:00pm Friday. The family is receiving family and friends at the residence of his sister, Tasha Morris. (Bonham Road).

Rondell Morris was born March 20, 1979, the son of Dorothy Mae Morris Bernard and Leon Stroman. He departed this earthly life on October 11, 2023.

Rondell was a man dedicated to his family and friends and treasured the relationships he made. The family commented about his love for his family (especially his children) and how he was loved by all of his family and friends.

Rondell was one of a kind. He had a very caring heart. He loved his family and that means all of us. He showed nopain even when I could look into his eyes and see pain. He would always say Tasha, I’m ok. I got this.

I usually would say, Rondell you play too much with a smile on my face. He is really going to be missed a lot by a lot of us. Shocking is not even the beginning of explaining this til we meet again . We love you handsome.

He leaves to cherish and love his memory, six children, Devonta Keller, Detroit MI, J’Koby Dunbar, Columbia, SC , Shy’teria Morris, Aiken, SC Cali Monae Morris , Minnesota, and Mariella and Marianna Valentine , of Saluda, SC; six sisters, Tasha Morris, Saluda, SC Warneeka Robinson, Therese Robinson Cassandra Griffin(Caleb), all of Aiken, SC Shenora Robinson, Aiken, SC and Marquita Coleman, Batesburg, SC, five brothers, Tony Coleman, Zack Coleman, Stacie Coleman, Gregory Burgess, Batesburg, SCand Steven Gantt and Terrence Lockett, Jr both of Ridge Spring, SC; six aunts, three uncles two grandchildren, Kaden Morris and Kacen Morris both of Aiken, SC and a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends.

Margaret R. (Jackson) Gray

Hephzibah, GA- Funeral Services for Mrs. Margaret R. Gray will be held 11:00am Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Augusta, GA. The Rev. Xavier Creekmur, Pastor/Officiating; and the Rev. Dr. Sam Davis, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Mine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Johnston, SC. Viewing will be Thursday October 19, 2023 11:00am- 6:00pm at Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, SC. The family will receive family and friends at the residence in Hepzibah.

Margaret R. (Jackson) Gray was born May 6, 1948 to Elijah and Lillie Bell (Mathis) Jackson all of Johnston, SC. She attended South Carolina public schools and was one of the first black students to graduate from Strom Thurmond High School in 1966. She was a member of Bland Baptist Church in Johnston, SC. At the age of 20 years old, she married the late John Elzia Gray, the son of the late Willie and Bennie Lee (Honey) Gray.  She and her husband traveled a lot in service to their country. She graduated from Kerr Business College, and attended Georgia Military.  She later joined Beulah Grove Baptist Church where she served as the Accountability Director as well as participated in several ministries such as the Card and Craft Ministry.  She had a love for math, crochet, jewelry making, cooking and reading. She loved God and people. She was a good-hearted person who loved to smile and make people laugh. She enjoyed encouraging people and helping those in need.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Cheryl Gray of Fairburn, GA and Daryl (Jaime Battle) Gray of Marietta, GA, two sisters Mary Lillie (Ulysees) Johnson of Laurinburg, NC, Delores (Sigmon) Jones of Hempstead, NY, one brother-in-law James (Gail) Gray, sisters-in-law Mildred Gray, Sarah Richardson both of Johnston, SC, Virginia Gray of Lodi NJ, Grace Gray of Patterson, NJ, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Catherine Teresa Coleman Butler

Aiken, SC- Funeral Services for Catherine Teresa Coleman Butler will be held 1:00pm Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Casey Duncan Pastor and the Rev erend Dr. Jerome Coleman , Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Viewing will be 11:00am - 6:00pm Thursday at Amos & Sons Funeral Home. and the family will recieve family and friends at her residence in Aiken.

Catherine Teresa Coleman Butler was born November 14, 1953, in Edgefield County to the late Deacon Wille Lee Coleman, Sr and Rosa Belle Harris Coleman She peacefully entered into rest at her home on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

She was a graduate of Strom Thurmond High School in Edgefield, SC, class of 1971. Soon after, she married Fred Norman Butler Jr. She worked in textile at Graniteville mill (Townsend) for nearly 20 years, then she moved into customer service at The Pantry, where she worked until 2002. She worked at Riegel Mill as the canteen attendant for nearly 2 years.

She leaves behind four beautiful children who love her dearly. Stephanie (Abdul) Mohammed , Fred "Pop" (Connie) Butler III, Ryan Butler, and Casey (Tony Brown) Butler, all of Aiken, SC. Catherine has 9 grandchildren who love and adore her. Braylin Griffin, Domonique Charley, Chastity Abney, Sofia Akut, Ja'Ryaih Butler, Toniya Briggs, Kimora Williams, Kaziya Williams, Camden Williams, and Niriyah Butler who preceded in death. She was also a GREAT grandmother to Domonique (DJ) Charley Jr., Juwan "Ju" Foulks Jr., and Keylan White, whom she affectionately called "Puna".

Catherine has 3 brothers: Rev. Dr. Jerome (Frances) Coleman of Columbia, SC,  Clyde T. Coleman of Norfolk, VA, Odell (Yvonne) Coleman of Columbia, SC. Three who proceded her in death: Rev. James A. Harris, Jacob S. Coleman, and Willie Lee Coleman., Jr.  She has four sisters: Jannie (Kenny) Molyneaux of Columbia, SC, Nylor P. Coleman of Dallas GA, Doris (Allen) Johnson of North Augusta, SC, and Elder Corine (Leslie) Simpkins of Graniteville SC. 2 Aunts Carrie (Councilman Frank) Daniel of Ward, SC. and Lola Belle Butler of Johnston, SC and 1 Uncle M.C. (Phoebe) Harris, Corona NY. She also has 10 sisters-in-law, 8 brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephew, and cousins. 

Master Sergeant John Albert Watson

Graveside Services for Master Sergeant John Albert Watson will be held 11:00am Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Garden, Johnston. Interment will follow. Reverend Willie Patten, Jr will Officiate.

Master Sergeant John Albert Watson was born to the late Willie and Ella Townson Watson on July 3, 1945 in Edgefield County, SC.

At an early age, he was baptized at the Pine Hill Baptist Church. He was a 1964 graduate of W.E. Parker High School in Edgefield, SC. He worked at Federal Pacific in Edgefield, SC for several years.

He was drafted in the United States Army in 1967. In the Army, he served during the Vietnam Conflict. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and many other awards. He was a member of the 122nd Engineer Battalion in Edgefield, SC, where he worked as a technician. On one of his more memorable deployments, he served in Bosnia (Operation Iraqi Freedom.) He served over 33 years in the military.

He was married to Betty Griffin Watson. This union was blessed with two children. Lisa Watson Dunbar and Christopher Scott Watson.

He leaves to remember and salute his memory, his children, Lisa (Allen) Dunbar, Beech Island, SC and Christopher (Marissa) Watson, Temecula, CA; three grandchildren, D’Andre Dunbar, Layla Mae Watson, and Scott Jacob Watson, two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Lailan Dunbar; a sister, Evorn (Albert) Drumming, Trenton, SC; an aunt, Minnie Buggs, Passaic NJ; two sisters-in-law, Debra Griffin, Trenton, SC, Patsy Mosley, Johnston, SC; two brothers-in-law, Toney (Cora) Griffin, Edgefield, SC and Michael (Petina) Waldo, Saluda, SC; special friends, Fred Marshall, Ronnie Hammond, Paul Collins, Ollie West and Arthur West; and a host of special nieces and nephews whom he loved so much and would do anything for them (smile) and other family members and friends.

Carrie Mae Padgett

Johnston, SC- Graveside services for Mrs. Carrie Mae Mealing Padgett will be held 2:00pm Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Sunset Memorial Garden in Johnston, SC with the Evangelist Carnell Padgett, Eulogist. There will no viewing.

Mrs. Carrie Mae Mealing Padgett(Penny), the daughter of the late Carrie Lou and James Mealing was born on August 29, 1959 in Edgefield, SC. She was graced by God to complete the circle of life on August 29, 2023 at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken, SC following a trying illness.

She accepted the Lord early in life at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served many years.

She eventually met the love of her life , Donald Padgett in 1984. and was married in 1986. To their union two children were born. Karen Desiree Padgett Melson and Donald Armond Padgett.

She attended school in Aiken County and graduated from Aiken High School in 1978. She later attended Kenneth Schuler’s School of Cosmetology in North Augusta, SC.

She worked as a cosmetologist for several years in her shop. She later worked at Salem Carpet in Trenton, SC and Southern Home Health Care in Aiken, SC.

She was a blessing and a joy to all she served and loved. She could always brighten a room with her smile and sweet laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Carrie Lou Mealing, siblings, Hattie Mae Mealing, James Robert Mealng and Wallace Mealing.

Mrs. Padgett leaves to to miss love honor and cherish he memory, her husband, Donald Padgett(Johnston, SC, a daughter, Karen (Issac) Desiree Padgett Melson (Atlanta, GA), a son, Donald ArmondPadgett (Johnston, SC), two brothers, Elester Mealing and Larry (Mary) Mealing, both of Trenton, SC, three sisters, Annie (Brown) Ellison, Connie Mealing and Mary Mealing Diggs, all of Trenton, SC., four granddaughters, Ariayanna Padgett, Aalayiah Padgett, A’Dale Key, and Ariah Melson of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces , nephews cousins other loved ones and friends.

Nellie Alberta Gray Smith

Columbus, GA- Funeral Services for Mrs. Nellie Alberta Gray Smith will be held 11:00am Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Mine Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Peterson, Pastor and the Rev. Javon Jackson Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be 5:00pm -7:00pm Friday at the Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston.

Mrs. Nellie Alberta Gray Smith was born March 12, 1934 to Willie Lee and Bennie Lee Gray in Johnston, SC. She passed away on August 7, 2023 in Columbus GA surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nellie graduated from Johnston High School as Valedictorian, Vorhees Junior College with a General Education Degree and Columbus College with a General Studies Degree.

Nellie joined Mine Creek Baptist Church in Johnston, SC at a young age. As an adult living in Columbus, she became a member of Holsey Chapel CME Church where she served as a Stewardess, was a member on the Pastor’s Aide Board, and sang in the choir.

Nellie started her work career with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). Over time, she became a mobile manager for AAFES and traveled for work in Victorville CA and Los Angeles CA. Upon her retirement from AAFES, Nellie returned to Columbus and began working for Muscogee County School District as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional. After 11 years, she retired permanently and became a full-time mother and grandmother.

Nellie had a very active social life. She was inducted into Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Beta Zeta Chapter in 1994 and served as President for four years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Nellie was a true Matriarch. She was loved and adored by many. Sunday dinner was her way of showing her love. SHE never met a stranger and there was always room at the table.

Nellie was predeceased by her father , mother, and siblings, Willette Gray, Eunice Price, Addie Louise, White, Eva Lou Stevens, Willie (Billy) Gray, Jr., Thomas (Jimmy) Gray and Marjorie (Betty) Miles.

She leaves to love honor and cherish her memory, by her siblings, Mildred (Mickey) Gray, James Albert Gray (Gail), Annie Sarah Richardson, and her devoted children, Audrey Earl, Eric Smith(Soizik), Tracy Robertson(Kelvin), Andrea Brown (Jeffery), 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and a host

of nieces nephews and friends.

Robert Lee Price

Robert Lee Price, 78, was born March 28, 1945 in Aiken County, South Carolina. He departed this life head for his eternal home on August 10, 2023 at his home.

Robert was the eldest child of the late Maybelle Robinson Price and the late Arthur Price.

He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Johnston, SC.

At an early age Robert left South Carolina headed to New York City to search and find employment and fortune. In New York City is where he became a metal worker.

In New York, he met fell in love and was united in holy matrimony to the late Betty Ann Griffin Price. To this union, one child was born.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents the late Arthur and Maybelle Price, his brothers, Eulius Robinson, Willie James Robinson, and Arthur Price, Jr.

He leaves to love honor and cherish his precious memories, a daughter, Robin Ann Price, four grandchildren, Deshaunda Price, Saudia (Jay), Tamya McNeil, and Cheyenne Heath; two sisters, Dorothy Burt and Jennie Ruth (George) Burt both of Johnston, SC, a aunt, Ellise Jones, Philadelphia, PA; a great-aunt, Ruby Mae Glover, Aiken, SC; sisters-in-law, Carrie Robinson, Edgefield, Lillie Dobbs, New York, and

Jamarquious Travon Tompkins

I n the blink of an eye, on July 23, 2023, our beloved Jamarquious Travon Tompkins, , saw a light of glory and began his journey home.

Jamarquious was born April 20, 1999, in Ft. Pierce, Flordia St. Lucia County, to Bernadino Martinez and Cynthia Marie Tompkins.

He was employed at Shaw Industries for a little over a year. He was an operator who had begun training other on the job.

Jamarquious was a man who was loved by all and always offered a cheerful smile and words of encouragement to anyone who needed it. He was a people person with a good heart. He love his family and friends especially his mom. She meant the world to him. He was a free-spirit who loved to joke and had a great sense of humor. He loved most he met and loved making others happy. He also enjoyed video gaming PS5 was his game of choice.

Jamarquious leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory, his loving and devoted mother, Cynthia Marie Tompkins of Trenton, SC, two brothers, Antorion Tyrell Nerulus and Devontae Saquan Tompkins both of Trenton, SC a aunt, Sabrina Howard, Johnston, SC, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
