Anthony Davon Leaphart

Batesburg-Leesville - Anthony Davon Leaphart was born in Lexington County, South Carolina on October 31, 1977.  He was the son of the late Shirley Leaphart and the late Lindsay Robinson.  On Sunday, December 10, 2023, Anthony entered into eternal rest.  He is loved and missed by family and friends.

Anthony joined Wesley Chapel CME Church, Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina at an early age and sang in the youth choir.  He was the best independent contractor. Anthony had a special bond with everyone in his family and was a confidant to many.  He was a true football fan of the Clemson Tigers and Dallas Cowboys.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Leaphart; his father, Lindsay Robinson; maternal grandparents, Lucretia and Alonza Leaphart; paternal grandparents, Minnie Bell and Charles Robinson, Jr.; maternal great-grandparents, Alfred and Janie Coleman and one uncle, Leon Leaphart.

His memories are cherished by a son, Anthony Leaphart, Jr. of Saluda, South Carolina;  his brothers, Tyrone (Ashley) Leaphart, Derrell (Shermaine) Leaphart and Lindsay Robinson, Jr., all of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; his sisters, Christie Leaphart (Eric Derrick) and Shanequa Jackson, both of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; step-father, Randolph Wigfall; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and special friends, Dominique Burgess, Lamont Rowe and Dread Smith.

Homegoing Services were held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Wesley Chapel CME Church, located at 1501 Double Bridges Rd, Batesburg-Leesville, SC. Rev. Dr. Doris Hicks is the Pastor Officiating. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel CME Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Vivian Jay Weaver

Mrs. Vivian Jay Weaver, 76, was born May 28, 1947. She departed this earthly life on December 13, 2023, at her residence, 226 Lanier Road, Johnston, South Carolina, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Vassie Jay and Susie Ann Edwards Jay.

At an early age, she joined and was baptized at the Lotts Grove Baptist Church where she worked faithfully

On May 28, 1965, she became a graduate of W. E..Parker High School.

On May 7, 1971, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnny Mac Weaver. Unto this union, they were blessed with five children.

One son, Kelvin Travis Weaver and one daughter, Vickie Denise Weaver Harrison, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Reginal Weaver, Johnston, SC, Jammy Weaver, Augusta, GA, one daughter, Donna Weaver, Trenton, SC, one sister-in-law, Mary Weaver Harrison, Johnston, SC, six grandchildren, Khadijah Weaver, Rodshad Weaver, Olivia Quarles, Terrell Quarles, Vivica Harrison and Lianiah Weaver, two great grandchildren, Sanora Lovett and De’Ajah Lovett, and a host of nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

Alfred Satterwhite

Alfred Satterwhite, known as “Man”, was born June 20, 1985, in Greenwood, SC, to Alfred Williams and the late Chris Ann Satterwhite Williams. He departed this life and entered rest on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Alfred was educated in the Public Schools of Edgefield and Aiken County School Districts. He was a hard working employee and entrepreneur. He was an employee of Kimberly Clark for 10 plus years and an entrepreneur with his father Alfred Williams at A & A Construction and Carpentry. He also enjoyed writing music and rapping. His stage name was “Young Gemini”.

As a child, Alfred grew up in a God-Fearing home. He attended Faith Outreach Christian Center in Ridge Spring, SC, with Pastor Alvin Ligons. Alfred has always been a young man that demonstrated the love of God by his actions and the joy he brought to others.

Alfred will be deeply missed. His infectious smile, since of humor, and willingness to help anyone in need has left an imprint on the hearts of those who knew him.

Alfred was preceded in death by his mother, Chris Ann Satterwhite Williams, paternal grandparents, Bennie Lee Williams and Corine Williams, maternal grandparents, Henry Satterwhite and Pearline Satterwhite.

Horace Pixley Sr. “Big Money” was born November 19, 1953, the eldest son of Theodore and Christina Pixley . A native of Trenton, Sc he entered into eternal rest December 12, 2023 at the Wellstar Medical Center, Augusta GA.

He is preceded in death by his mate of 31 years, Angelia Renea Holloway, a grandchild, Courvoisier Martin and siblings, Theodore Pixley, Jr and Leroy Pixley.

Horace is survived by his children, Horace (Regina) Pixley, Jr. , Sharon (Steven) Walker, Tesa Ohwovoriole. Ashley “Lulu” (Lywill) Brown and Joshua Pixley. Jaheim Ahmad Mathis

Jaheim Ahmad Mathis was born to his parents, Richard Mathis, Jr. and Winifar Jean Mathis, on Saturday, November 24, 2001 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He gained his wings and went to heaven on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at WellStar Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia at the tender age of 22.

Jaheim grew up with his parents and his older brother, Byron Tyrell Mathis, in Johnston, South Carolina. Everyone that knew Jaheim loved him for his characteristic smile and infectious personality. He enjoyed traveling, hanging out with friends, spending time with his family, and attending sporting events.

Jaheim was an avid lover of sports. His favorite teams were the Strom Thurmond Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, and the Dallas Cowboys. As a young boy, it was his dream to play football in high school, college, and in the NFL. Jaheim attended Strom Thurmond High School where he graduated in 2020. While at Strom Thurmond High School, he was a starter on the football team as the left tackle on the offensive line. He went on to attend Limestone University on a football scholarship where he studied general business and played tight end for the Limestone Saints.

Jaheim is survived by his father (Richard Mathis, Jr.), his mother (Winifar Mathis), his brother (Byron Mathis), his sister-in-law (Valeria Lee), his niece (Laila Mathis), his grandmother (Edna Mathis), the love of his life (Taylor Smith), his dog (Ghost), and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

James Burt

Edgefield, SC- In what seemed like the blink of an eye, on November 22, 2023, our beloved James Burt saw the bright light of glory and began his journey home.

Mr. James was born June 11, 1950, in Edgefield County, SC, the son of Frank Burt, Sr and Mattie Padgett Burt.

Memorial Services for Mr. James Burt will be held 11:00am Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, SC. The Reverend Alfred Bates will officiate.

James Burt was educated in the schools of Edgefield County. And a graduate of WE Parker High School.

He was employed with the Graniteville Company for many years.

Mr. James was a giving person, a man of few words , he was a honest, hard working and fair man who was loved by all he dealt with and always offered a cheerful smile and words of encouragement to anyone who needed it.

Mr. James was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Frank Burt, Sr. , Albert Burt and Willie Lee Burt.

Larry E. Johnson

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church, located at 140 Shady Grove Road, Batesburg-Leesville, SC, where Reverend James McDaniel is the Presiding Pastor.

Mr. Larry E. Johnson, 64, was born September 22, 1959, resided in Columbia, South Carolina before he transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Prisma Parkridge Hospital. He was the son of the late James and Ethel Johnson.

Larry accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shady Grove Baptist Church, Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina. He attended the public schools of Lexington County, graduating from Batesburg Leesville High School. After graduating, he attended Midlands Technical College for some time before beginning his career as owner and operator of over-the-road truck driving. Years later, Larry took a position of employment at Amicks Farms as a truck driver.

Larry was preceded in death by both of his parents, James and Ethel Johnson, his brother James “Terry” Johnson, and one sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Lee & James “Sunny Boy” Morris.

Those left to cherish his memories include two brothers and two sisters- James Norris, Michael Johnson, Sarah Burton, and Dorothy Walker, all who reside in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; He also leaves to cherish his memories two daughters- Janice Gantt of Monetta, South Carolina, and Erica Mincey of Lexington, South Carolina; four grandchildren- Janisha Ruth, Quameshia Gantt, Jordan Bell, and Daquon Hicks; one great-grandson- Zimiere Mobley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.

In what seemed like the blink of an eye, on October 18, 2023, our beloved Pearl Edward Lott saw the bright light of glory and began her journey home. Mrs. Pearl was born February 7, 1932, in Edgefield County, SC, the daughter of Smith Edwards and Mattie Smith Edwards.

She was educated in the schools of Edgefield County. She was a member of Grace Deliverance where the Pastors are Apostle Willie and Geneva Campbell.

She was employed with the Saluda County School District spreading love one meal at a time in the cafeterias of Riverside Elementary_and Saluda Elementary for over 44 years.

To some she was Ms. Pearl, To some she was Young Lady, To some she was sunshine, To some she was Mother Pearl, To some she was Queen, To some she was Grandma, To some she was Nana, To some she was Nen-Nen, To some she was Grammie, To some she was Nenny but To us she was Mom and Mamma.

Ms. Pearl was such a giving person. At times, she used her personal finances to make sure students had hot lunches. She also fed those in the community that came to her home for fellowship. Ms. Pearl was a woman, who was loved by all and always offered a cheerful smile and words of encouragement to anyone who needed it. She was a person with a good heart.

Ms. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lott, Sr, her parents, and two sons, James and Albert Lott, Jr.

Ms. Pearl leaves to love, honor and cherish her memories, her children, Marjorie Perment, Johnston, SC, Edward (Roberta) Lott, North Augusta, SC , Tracy Lott, and Marilyn Lott both of Trenton, SC, a brother, Lawrence Edwards, Trenton, SC; fifteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Rondell Morris

Rondell Morris was born March 20, 1979, the son of Dorothy Mae Morris Bernard and Leon Stroman. He departed this earthly life on October 11, 2023.

Rondell was a man dedicated to his family and friends and treasured the relationships he made. The family commented about his love for his family (especially his children) and how he was loved by all of his family and friends.

Rondell was one of a kind. He had a very caring heart. He loved his family and that means all of us. He showed nopain even when I could look into his eyes and see pain. He would always say Tasha, I’m ok. I got this.

I usually would say, Rondell you play too much with a smile on my face. He is really going to be missed a lot by a lot of us. Shocking is not even the beginning of explaining this til we meet again . We love you handsome.

Margaret R. (Jackson) Gray

Margaret R. (Jackson) Gray was born May 6, 1948 to Elijah and Lillie Bell (Mathis) Jackson all of Johnston, SC. She attended South Carolina public schools and was one of the first black students to graduate from Strom Thurmond High School in 1966. She was a member of Bland Baptist Church in Johnston, SC. At the age of 20 years old, she married the late John Elzia Gray, the son of the late Willie and Bennie Lee (Honey) Gray.  She and her husband traveled a lot in service to their country. She graduated from Kerr Business College, and attended Georgia Military.  She later joined Beulah Grove Baptist Church where she served as the Accountability Director as well as participated in several ministries such as the Card and Craft Ministry.  She had a love for math, crochet, jewelry making, cooking and reading. She loved God and people. She was a good-hearted person who loved to smile and make people laugh. She enjoyed encouraging people and helping those in need.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Cheryl Gray of Fairburn, GA and Daryl (Jaime Battle) Gray of Marietta, GA, two sisters Mary Lillie (Ulysees) Johnson of Laurinburg, NC, Delores (Sigmon) Jones of Hempstead, NY, one brother-in-law James (Gail) Gray, sisters-in-law Mildred Gray, Sarah Richardson both of Johnston, SC, Virginia Gray of Lodi NJ, Grace Gray of Patterson, NJ, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
