Betty Jean Glanton

Betty Jean Surry Glanton was born October 20, 1945 in Edgefield County, SC. She was the daughter of Mary Holloway Surry and Sam Surry. She departed this earthly life on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Edgefield Post Acute Center, Edgefield, SC.

She was a lifelong resident of Edgefield, SC, and a member of Republican Grove Baptist Church. She was educated in the Edgefield County School system.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late CT Glanton. They were blessed with five children and a bonus daughter, who was the niece she raised as one of her own. Betty was a stay-at-home mother. She was an amazing and loving person that raised her children. During her spare time, she would babysit and care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Glanton loved to sit on her front porch with family laughing and joking. She was our true gem. She will forever be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C T Glanton, a son, Tony Glanton, her brothers, Sammy and Joe, and a step-sister, Alice Hammond.

She leaves to love, honor and cherish her memory, Debra Glanton (Walter), Dale Glanton (Wanda), Matthew Glanton, Patricia Glanton and Latisha Surry; siblings, Maggie Rouse (Mack, Jr), Ethel Simpkins (Thomas W.), In-Laws- Sadie Thomas, Amy McCollough (Dan), Susie Glanton, Shirley Glanton, Nathan Glanton (Mary), and Johnny Glanton, Jr., (13) thirteen grandchildren, (16) great grandchildren, an uncle, Mickey Surry and aunts Letha Johnson (Jack), Mildred Holloway, May Holloway, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Willie James Mathis

Willie James Mathis (Will) entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 11, 2024 at home loved by his family.

Will was born in Edgefield County, SC on May 18, 1951. He was the son of the late Charlie Jr. and Wilma Mathis.

Will was educated in the schools of Edgefield County. Following school, he worked on the Clark Farm for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Shirley Mathis and Sarah Mathis.

Will leaves to love, honor and cherish his memories: two sisters, Virginia Mathis, Johnston, SC, and Charline Mathis, Washington, DC; eight brothers, David Mathis (Fannie), Joe R. Mathis, Joseph Mathis and Orlando Mathis all of Johnston, SC, Randy Mathis (Lulla) and Alvin Mathis (Josephine), both of Saluda, SC; John Mathis, North Augusta, SC and Mark Mathis (Denise), Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sister Annie Mae Hartley Bush

Annie Mae Hartley Bush was born August 10, 1929, the daughter of Lilia Hartley, in Augusta, GA. She was called home to be with the Lord on May 11, 2024, at her residence in Johnston, SC, loved by her family. Sharee said the last thing she did Saturday night was pray. Sharee also said she prayed out loud and told her she loved her.

At an early age, she moved to Johnston with family. She was educated through Edgefield County School System. She was united in holy matrimony to Thomas Bush.

She was blessed with ten children.

Sister Annie Mae Bush was a praying woman. She would start her day with prayer, scripture and a cup of coffee and would end her day with scripture and prayer. She did not play. She was strong, dedicated mother and grandmother, independent and serious about the job of loving and supporting her family. She also took extreme pride in her home and yard. She would meticulously sweep her driveway, care for her flowers and plants and take care of her chickens and cats. She met no strangers.

Sister Annie was a hard worker. She worked for over 30 years at Reigel Industries with a perfect attendance record.

She was preceded in death by her mother, and her children Ricky Bush, Lee Bush, Willie Bush and Carl Bush.

She leaves to love, honor, and cherish her memories: her sons, James Bush (Lois), Clary Bush (Rosa), Chuck Bush all of Johnston, SC, daughters, Daisy Harrington, Johnston, SC; Annie Bush, Trenton, SC and Tammy Bush, Johnston, SC; a sister, Daisy Corley, Johnston, SC; twenty-two grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Ned West

Batesburg-Leesville, SC- Funeral Services for Mr. Ned West, Jr. will be held 3:00pm Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Chinquapin Baptist Church, Batesburg, SC. The Rev. Dr. James Ratliff, Sr. Pastor and the Rev. James Duncan, Officiating- the Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. Viewing will begin May 10, 2024, at Noon at Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Batesburg, SC. Masonic Rites will commence at 6:00pm Thursday at the Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Mr. NED WEST, Jr., 88, was born April 12, 1936, to the late James “Jack” West and Nora Wise in Saluda County, South Carolina. He was educated at Saluda Monetta School. He received Christ at an early age at Poplar Branch Baptist Church and later united with Chinquapin Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon until his health began to fail. He entered into eternal peace on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Ned was united in holy matrimony to the late Lorana J. West on July 30, 1955. This union produced six beautiful children. He was first employed by Burlington Industries, later moving on to work at Owens Corning Fiberglass. He also worked for Amos & Sons Funeral Home for many years, and did security for Rawls Auto Auction. After retiring, he started his own scrap iron business. He was a member of the Twin City Lodge No. 316 PM of Batesburg, South Carolina, Cairo Temple 125 HPP, Twin City Chapter No. 243, CC Johnson Consistory No. 136, 33˚ and a life member with the B -L Branch of the NAACP.

Those left to cherish his memories include: four daughters, Nora Bell West, Jannie Ruth Todman, Roberta (Jerome) Culbreath, all of Batesburg -Leesville, South Carolina and Nettie Lee Dozier of Bronx, New York; three sons, Elzie Lee (Katie) West of Lexington, South Carolina, Ned (Heidi) West, III of Peoria, Illinois and Timothy (Mary Ann) West of Batesburg -Leesville, South Carolina; four sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Etheredge of Saluda, South Carolina, Mamie Sue Corley of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Jones and Maggie West, both of Hackensack, New Jersey; one brother, Major “Tiny Boy” West of Saluda, South Carolina; five sisters -in -law, Minnie Meachem of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Carrie West and Charlotte West, both of Saluda, South Carolina, Dorothy West of Batesburg -Leesville, South Carolina and Betty Wise of Bronx, New York; a special niece and nephews, Barbara and Keith Landy of Batesburg -Leesville, South Carolina and Jimmy and Charlie Jay of San Antonio, Texas; affectionately called “Mom” by Ned, Mrs. Corine Johnson of Batesburg -Leesville, South Carolina; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, five great-great -grandchildren, and other relatives and many sorrowing friends who will miss his knowledge and wisdom.

John Henry Mealing

John Henry Mealing was born the son of Jessie Mealing, Jr and Essie Lou Moore Mealing on July 22, 1951, in Edgefield, South Carolina. He was called home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2024, at his residence loved by his family in Graniteville, SC.

At an early age, he joined Mount Olive Baptist Church and was educated through Edgefield County School System.

John Henry loved life and people. But his boys were his heart. He bragged and loved on them in his own way. He was a funny person who kept you laughing. Along with the many laughs he was a hard worker. He worked for many years for J&J Logging. Just know he was loved and will definitely be missed.

John Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Essie Lou Mealing, four brothers, George Mealing, Willie Mealing, Raymond Mealing and Alfred Mealing.

Robin Monique Drumming was born to Robert and Lorine Simpkins Drumming on November 7, 1982, in Edgefield, South Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2024, at Piedmont

Augusta Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

At an early age, she joined Shaws Creek Baptist Church and was educated through Edgefield County School System.

Robin loved life and people. While working at Amick Farms in Batesburg, South Carolina, she became a Shift Supervisor and was loved dearly by her co-workers and friends.

Left to cherish her memories are devoted parents Robert and Lorine (Trenton), a sister Angela (Trenton) a brother Orhroa Simpkins (Kisha) North Augusta, and a niece Adriana (Trenton). Two children of the home, Nelliana and Colby.

Grandparents the late (Willie R. Simpkins) (Corine) and the late Eddie and Inez Drumming. A host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Mrs. Reba Gail Williams Walker

Mrs. Reba W. Walker, 64, of 106 Robin Drive, Johnston, SC, went to be with our Lord on Friday, March 15, 2024.

Reba was born on September 28, 1959 in Peekskill, NY to the late J.W. and Mary J. Williams, who both preceded her in death.  Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Emily Edrington and Vickie Stewart.

Reba is survived by her husband, Reginald Walker of the home.  Sons, Cory Williams (LaSheryl) of Nashville, TN, Marcus Williams, Charlotte, NC, Reginald Walker, Jr. (Vickie), Steve Walker (Shay), Jerome Walker (Tiara) all of Johnston.  Daughters, Nikita Williams, Birmingham, AL, Cynthia Walker (Travis), Sonya Walker, Nikki Walker of Johnston, Regina Walker, Shelby, NC.  Also Ja'Nova Walker and Mason Leach who were raised in the home.

Sister, Ms. Terril C. Williams, Gaffney, SC and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

John Henry Butler

Mr. Butler was a retired veteran in the Army.
