Edgefield, SC- Funeral Services for Mrs. Letha Johnson will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Republican Grove Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC with the Rev. Willie Patten, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Church. Cemetery. Viewing will be 11am-5:00 pm Saturday at Amos and Sons Funeral Home Johnston, SC.
She quietly transitioned on January 6, 2025 at the Pruitt Healthcare Facility in Aiken, SC.
Letha H. Johnson was born to the late Pierce Holloway and Leola Williams on July 3, 1938, in Edgefield County. On January 6, 2025, Letha peacefully transitioned with her loving family by her side. Letha was affectionately known as “The Boss Lady” or “Poor Gal” to her family.
Letha attended Edgefield Public Schools and was a member of the graduating class of 1956. She was united in holy matrimony to Jack Johnson on May 9, 1959, and to this union four children were born. She was a strong-willed, and loving mother.
Letha worked 18 years at Graniteville Mills and several years later, she retired from SmithKline Beecham. After retiring she worked part-time for Gleams Edgefield Head Start Center. Throughout her life, she volunteered for the Edgefield County Juvenile Arbitration Organization and Lexington County Solicitor Office.
Letha had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone in any way. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, and entertaining loved ones and friends. She was a devoted member of Republican Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Choir, and as the Financial Secretary. She was also an active member of the Rock Hill Society.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her three brothers: Pete, June, Pierce Holloway, two sisters, Mary Surry and Irene McAlister, two children, Dennis Johnson and Donna Alvelo, and two grandchildren, Shon Simmons and Jackee Johnson.
She leaves to cherish and honor her memories, her devoted and loving husband Jack Johnson of the home; sons Jack (Diane) Johnson of Edgefield, SC, Johnny York of Trenton, SC, daughter Debra (Herbert) Durden of Grovetown, GA; siblings, Grace Lee of Washington, DC, Patricia(Jack) Callaham of North Augusta, SC, Mildred Holloway and Carrie Mae Holloway of Charlotte NC, brother-in-law George (MaryAnn) Johnson of Edgefield, SC; four grandchildren: Keshia Murdock, Antonio Alvelo, Ronnie Jones, and LaDonna Carter of Aiken, SC, Aleshia Blacks of Johnston, SC; 17 great-grandchildren; a cherished friend, Dana Dawkins of Johnston, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
