Johnston, SC
Mildred Morgan Springs was born October 20, 1929 in Edgefield County, South Carolina to the late Waldo and Sophie Morgan. She was the 11th of the twelve children born to this union and she loved her siblings dearly. She departed this life on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
Mildred was educated in Edgefield County until the 6th grade. The balance of her education came from a full, well-lived life. She amassed a wealth of knowledge that she so willingly shared with others whether you wanted it or not.
Mildred was baptized and raised to love and fear God in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She later joined the Seventh-day Adventist faith and served in many capacities at the Johnston Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her ministry extended far beyond the walls of any church doing what she could where she could.
Mildred was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late James Leonard Springs on November 22, 1944. They made their home in Johnston, South Carolina. To this union, six children were born: Ella Mae, Lenny, Melvin, Brenda, Marvene and Mildred Elaine.
Mildred enjoyed LIFE! She reveled in cooking, gardening, socializing in person and on the phone. She served as the President of the Helping Hands Club for several years. She also was a faithful member and officer of the Star Bright Christmas Saving Club. Mildred served in many capacities in the 70+ years of membership at Johnston Seventh-day Adventist Church. Wherever she could be found, she would be found strutting with authority.
She leaves to cherish her memory a host of family and friends.
Children: Ella Mae Springs Jones, Lexington, South Carolina; Lenny F. Springs, Charlotte, North Carolina; Melvin (Mattie) Springs, Trenton, South Carolina; Marvene S. Carey, North Augusta, South Carolina; Mildred Elaine Springs-McCottry, Columbia, South Carolina.
Grandchildren: Valjean (Raven) Favor, Lenny L. (Katrena) Springs, Byron (Ericka) Springs-McCottry, Melva Springs, Kyshia L. Carey, Mel Springs, Bertron Harris (Jessica) Beard II, Mari Springs, Joi (O’Neil) Gilliam, John Leonard Carey, and Elyse Bailey.
Great-grandchildren: Deshona Hawes, Princess Springs, Matthew Coverson-Springs, Myles Coverson-Springs, Bertron Harris Beard III, Erin Springs-McCottry, Kyle Leonard Springs-McCottry, Braylon Springs, Morgan Coverson-Springs, Jaden Beard, Katelyn Taylor, Lawson Springs, Synclaire Gilliam, Koleman LJ Springs and Sullivan Gilliam.
Great-great-grandchildren: Tamari King, Jurnee Hawes and Saige Reynolds.
Sister: Rose (James) Bethea, Richmond, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located at 1339 Columbia Road, Johnston, SC 29832. Masks are requested.
